 2016 Preview 


       Mobile Christian completed the 2015 season with a 10-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region one, the Leopards earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Mobile Christian reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to G.W. Long by a score of 48-23.

       The Leopards won as many games as in any season since 1998. The Leopards hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Wasden saw improvement as they won ten games following a 3-7 record in 2014.

       Since 2010, Mobile Christian has gone a combined 44-27. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Mobile Christian has managed to compile a record of 167-117. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 3A and 102nd in the AHSAA.

       The Leopards are led by head coach Tommy Wasden/Ronnie Cottrell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-2 record in his first season at Mobile Christian. The Leopards saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Wasden arrived. Under his direction the Leopards have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wasden.

       Coach Wasden's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 10-2 (83.3%).

       The Mobile Christian Leopards will play in Class 3A region one during the 2016 season. The Leopards move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Mobile Christian will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       The Leopards will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season.

      

      Running back Troy Young returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,440 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior last season.

       The Leopards open the 2016 season at home against region opponent Excel on Friday, September 2 at Harrison Field. Last year the Excel Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 3A region one. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over J.U. Blacksher by a score of 31-16 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Mobile Christian and Excel have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Leopards have a 7-5-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Mobile Christian winning by a score of 35-6.

       Mobile Christian returns 2A All-State Senior kicker Beau Horn. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Leopards also return Junior defensive back Keith Gallmon. He was named to the first team. The Leopards also return Senior running back Troy Young. He was named to the honorable mention team.
